Voices of Resilience: The Stories and Personal Narratives of Female African, Caribbean, and Asian Adult Survivors of Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) in the Criminal Justice System

Led by Shilla Patel from the University of East London, this research seeks to explore the lived experiences of female survivors of African, Caribbean, and Asian heritage who have encountered the UK Criminal Justice System following child sexual abuse (CSA).

The study aims to amplify the voices of survivors, honour their resilience, and contribute to more inclusive and trauma-informed practices.

Who Can Take Part?

You are warmly invited to participate if you:

  • Identify as female
  • Are aged 18 or over
  • Are of African, Caribbean, or Asian heritage
  • Are a survivor of CSA
  • Have had any form of contact with the UK Criminal Justice System (e.g., reporting, court proceedings, police interaction)

What’s Involved?

  • A confidential, one-to-one interview online.
  • A chance to share your story in your own words
  • Your contribution will help shape understanding, policy, and support for survivors

Your Voice Matters

Your participation is entirely voluntary. You will be offered a small token of appreciation, and you may choose to receive a copy of the final research findings. You can also choose whether or not to be acknowledged in the final work.
