Children’s experiences of family law courts

Do you want to take part in research about the family courts?

If you are an adult or young person over the age of 12 and have been involved in the family court as a child, a team of female researchers at the University of Reading and University of Essex would like to speak to you!

This research will look at children’s experiences in family law court cases where allegations of child sexual abuse (‘CSA’) have been raised. The focus is on private family law cases, such as those determining with whom children should live or spend time.

What to expect?

Participation will involve taking part in an interview with one of the researchers where you can share your experience of the family courts. We will talk about things like:

  • How involved you felt you were in the case

  • How you felt about the outcome of the case

  • How did the court and professionals involved listen to you and, if relevant, how you could have felt more listened to

  • How has the court case affected your life

A message from the researcher:

My name is Jaime Lindsey and I am a researcher in family and healthcare law at the University of Reading. We are carrying out research funded by the British Academy which looks at children’s experiences of private family law cases in the family courts where allegations of child sexual abuse have been made. Our advisory group for the project includes survivors of CSA and our project partner is an organisation which supports survivors of sexual abuse.
