We’re pleased to share two poems by a member of our survivor writing community. They’re beautiful poems that move from trauma towards peace and healing.
The group meets online on Thursday evenings in term time, more information HERE.
A Lament
Inspired by Psalm 13, this piece was created during a Bible-based Trauma healing workshop. Similarly, to David’s writing, it begins by recognising God’s presence, followed by expressions of complaints, and then seeks divine assistance. In conclusion, hope, and trust in God are reaffirmed.
1. My Father, My Father, My Father, when will you answer my cry?
You said “Call on Me and I will answer”
2. You are Faithful LORD; would You now turn your Face from me?
A new dawn turns.
3. How long O Lord do I endure this contention?
How long O Lord, would you let my enemies say, where is your God?
I wait patiently and hope in You
4. O Lord, restore my soul.
Rescue me speedily.
5. Do not let my enemies triumph over me.
Arise, and save me.
6. I will praise the LORD
For His mercies are
new every morning.
You are Faithful LORD.
In Your Love, I put my trust.
You will not fail me.
Peace
The prompt “Peace,” was given during a survivor’s writing group. On reflection, my observations at sea infused this poem with elements of nature. Embracing precious moments of calmness allows us to find serenity and strength in our journey towards healing.
Peace, Peace, Peace!
Peace has a voice and calls out to me
“Why have you rejected me?
Peace! I beckoned, but there was no answer”.
I called, out aloud, Peace, come, embrace my being.
Flowing to me like a river in every storm
Endless peace wraps around my soul.
I choose peace to calm my emotions.
I receive peace like an everlasting companion.
I find solace and joy in peace.
Peace mirrors the serene blue lagoon.
I observe the fish in the tranquil waters, navigating with peace.
Oh, Why worry? Why be sorrowful? Why fret?
Be like the gentle waves, rising with elegance.
Glow like the fish, displaying beauty.
Peace is Light, and Peace is in abundance.
Peace, a precious gift, mine to keep
A crown of Peace graces my head.
A treasured gem, protecting my heart
Forever, peace and love remain with me.
