Survivors Voices Press is a survivor-led independent publisher that amplifies the voice and experience of survivors, promoting understanding of trauma and ally-ship with abuse survivors.
Our mission is to provide a trauma-informed platform for survivors’ work, filling the gap in mainstream publishing and challenging the stigma associated with accounts of abuse.

Weary of facing barriers in mainstream publishing, such as stigma, censoring and a harmful lack of mental health awareness, the survivor-led press provides an alternative path for writers.
Survivors Voices co-founder Jane Chevous explains, “there’s a lot of concern about legal issues if you name your abuser and there’s a certain niche version of survivor stories that is acceptable, the ‘shock horror’ or ‘tragic but brave’ stories. But anything else, that perhaps tries to be more holistic, is not responded to favourably and certainly people have had their publications refused because it’s about abuse.”
There is so much wisdom in the survivor community that needs to be shared
“Survivors Voices has always been about providing a space and a platform for survivors to say whatever it is we want to say – hence the name. There is so much wisdom in the survivor community that needs to be shared, and it’s wisdom that we’re not seeing in mainstream publications. Having the publishing arm seems a really logical next step.”

Our first two publications, a young adult novel about child sexual abuse and a memoir about rape, kick off a series of publications by survivor authors. You can purchase these titles and more from our shop.
Survivors Voices Press have big plans for 2025, with a “recovery recipe” book being prepared for release, featuring tried and tested self-help ideas from the Survivors Voices community. There are also two more books being prepared for publication next year, along with a series of pamphlets on topics such as emotional abuse and finding a therapist.
